Tech Valley Communications COMPLETES INSTALLATION of MORE THAN 25,000 strand miles of Fiber Optics

Area’s Only Locally Owned Facilities-based Telecommunications Company Has Invested Millions in Capital Region Infrastructure

(ALBANY) – FirstLight has dawned across more than 280 miles in the Capital Region.

Tech Valley Communications (TVC) has expanded its FirstLight network of fiber optic cabling to more than 280 route miles throughout the Capital Region. Within each route mile, TVC typically installs more than 216 strands of fiber cables for each primary route mile and between 48 and 96 on secondary routes. Higher fiber counts means more bandwidth. To date, TVC has installed more than 25,000 strand miles of fiber optics throughout the Capital Region.

“TVC’s $5 million investment in the Capital Region infrastructure means more businesses can take advantage of the high-speed, reliable and cost effective voice and data solutions that we provide,” said Kevin O’Connor, Tech Valley Communications Chief Executive Officer. “This helps create even more incentives to bring more and keep current high tech businesses in our area.”

The FirstLight fiber optic network is currently available in 16 municipalities throughout Albany and Rensselaer Counties with secondary routes reaching many others.

"In essence, we are rebuilding the voice and data infrastructure of the region – giving area businesses an alternative to the legacy copper infrastructure with state of the art fiber-based technology," said O’Connor. “This continued investment in our Region’s technological infrastructure will help bring the Tech Valley Region up to par with the infrastructure that is available in most high growth cities across the Country,” said O’Connor.

Tech Valley Communications is the only locally (Capital Region) owned, facilities-based telecommunications provider in Tech Valley. The company was recently recognized with an Inner City 100 award, presented by Inc. Magazine and the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) for its continued financial strength and revenue growth over the past several years.
